Most men remember to visit a doctor when something is already bothering them. The main danger of prostate cancer lies precisely in this — at an early stage, it develops completely silently. However, there is another, main truth here: prostate cancer detected at an early stage is 100% curable.
That is why what matters is not simply having an examination, but where and with whom you undergo it. The Karazanashvili Robotic Center is the first robotic surgery center in the Caucasus, where a unified, highest-level technological chain operates from diagnosis to complete recovery.
First Step: Screening with 29 MHz Micro-Ultrasound
Everything begins with proper screening. Unlike standard ultrasound, examinations at our center are performed using a unique device – 29 MHz micro-ultrasound.
This technology is exclusively available only at our five branches across the Caucasus (two centers in Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, and Zugdidi).
What does this mean for the patient? The doctor can see prostate tissue on the screen in the smallest details and immediately detect even suspicious, millimeter-sized lesions — in areas where a conventional device may show nothing at all. Our center offers both standard systematic biopsy and state-of-the-art targeted biopsy.
Why Is Our Approach Safe?
- Targeted biopsy under direct visual control: using 29 MHz micro-ultrasound, the doctor continuously monitors the suspicious lesion on the screen and collects the sample with millimeter-level precision — directly from the target point.
- The sample is taken through the skin (perineum), rather than through the rectum. Contact with rectal bacteria is completely eliminated, protecting the patient from sepsis and severe infectious complications.
While other clinics are only taking their first steps in robotic medicine, we already have two leading robotic technologies successfully in operation, allowing us to tailor treatment individually to each patient:
- French Focal One (non-surgical robotic method): when the disease is at an early stage, we destroy the tumor lesion using high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) without any incisions, wounds, or surgery. Healthy prostate tissue remains intact, while the man fully preserves urinary continence and potency.
- Surgical robot for radical and organ-sparing procedures: when surgery is necessary, the millimeter-level precision of the robot allows us to completely remove the tumor while avoiding damage to vital nerves.
Our team has performed nearly 400 robotic surgeries, including more than 200 performed directly on the prostate. In addition, we successfully perform the following procedures using robotic technology:
- Bladder surgery — the pinnacle of robotic surgery, in which a new urinary bladder is created inside the body from a segment of the intestine, without an external incision;
- Kidney-sparing surgery — removal of tumors measuring 7–8 cm while fully preserving the healthy kidney;
- Ureteral and reconstructive procedures.
Who Is Behind These Results? International Recognition and the School of Professor Guram Karazanashvili
Even the most advanced surgical robot is merely lifeless technology without the knowledge, experience, and skill of the surgeon. That is why, for the patient, the main guarantee is the authority of the doctor who leads the entire process.
The founder and leader of the Karazanashvili Robotic Center, Professor Guram Karazanashvili, is a prominent figure in Georgian and international uro-oncology. He was instrumental in introducing and establishing modern gold standards of uro-oncological surgery in the region:
- World-class leadership: Member of the Executive Board of the World Urological Oncology Federation (WUOF) and President of the Georgian Association of Urologists;
- European clinical training: Worked and performed surgeries for more than 10 years at leading university medical centers in Germany (University Hospital Bonn), Switzerland, and the Netherlands;
- Science and practice: Laureate of the National Prize of Georgia and author of numerous international scientific publications. The surgical techniques he developed and introduced are recognized in oncology clinical guidelines in Europe and the United States;
- A pioneer in the region: The first surgeon to perform highly complex laparoscopic and robotic reconstructive procedures in the Caucasus, including artificial bladder creation and organ-sparing procedures.
When it comes to your health and your life, there is no room for chance. At the Karazanashvili Robotic Center, you can expect world-recognized expertise, state-of-the-art technologies, and the experience gained from hundreds of patients whose lives have been saved.
