Heel spur, a buildup of salt on the heels, is another successful treatment at Karazanashvili Robotic Center! Innovative shockwave therapy is carried out using the latest device “STORZ DUOLITH”, and the results are evident: after just 5 sessions of therapy, the patient is relieved of problems such as pain, discomfort, and difficulty walking caused by heel spurs.

What is a heel spur?

A heel spur is a heel-shaped bony growth that originates at the back of the ankle on the heel bone, where the Achilles tendon is located. The disease is prevalent, accounting for approximately 10% of musculoskeletal disorders. The clinical symptom of heel pain is pain that the patient feels when walking. Over time, the situation changes, and the patient may feel pain even during rest.

Heel spurs cause plantar fasciitis, which causes discomfort, pain, and prevents people from walking.

What causes heel spur?

The cause of heel spurs is inflammation of the connective tissue on the foot that extends from the heel to the toes. As the disease progresses, the tissue becomes calcified and impregnated with calcium salts. Thus, osteophytes are formed, which have been called “heel disease” because of their appearance.

The causes of pain in the heels can be flat feet, overweight, pregnancy, age-related changes, injuries, a large load on the ankle (for example, in athletes), wearing uncomfortable shoes, chronic diseases that cause changes in blood vessels, nerves, soft tissues and joints of the lower extremities (sugar diabetes, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.)

Karazanashvili Robotic Center, uses an innovative method of treating heel pain: focused shock wave therapy, which is carried out on the latest equipment from the world’s leading German-Austrian company STORZ DUOLITH.

In addition to the treatment of heel spurs, focused shock wave therapy has also been successfully used for the following problems:

  • Chronic prostatitis, pain syndrome
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Spinal hernias and protrusions;
  • Arthritis, arthrosis, periarthritis;
  • Injuries and pathologies of tendons, muscles;
  • Contractures;
  • Fractures;
  • Trigger/muscle pain;
