Climax (Climacteric) or Menopause – Main Signs

Climax or menopause – several years before its onset, the menstrual cycle becomes irregular. At this time, the levels of the two sex hormones produced by the ovaries, estrogen and progesterone, decrease, and the process of regular maturation of eggs is disrupted. The age of onset of climax is individual, as are its complaints. In some cases, the menstrual cycle may stop for a certain period and later resume again. Climax is considered premature if it begins before the age of 40 and requires treatment. The cause of its premature onset is unknown; however, we can say that heredity is one of the important factors.

Menopause begins when the follicles in the ovaries are depleted. The cessation of follicle development causes a decrease in the production of estradiol and other hormones.

A decrease in the amount of estrogens in the blood causes changes in the organs under the influence of estrogens (uterus, mammary glands, urinary bladder, brain, heart, blood vessels, etc.).

The clinical manifestation of climacteric syndrome is so diverse that patients are forced to consult doctors of various specialties. Prevention and treatment are carried out in the fields of gynecology and endocrinology.

During climax, the following types of signs are observed:

Psycho-emotional disorders;

Irritability;

Mood changes;

Insomnia.

Vegetative-vascular disorders: hot flashes, redness, sensation of heat, sweating.

Recommendations for the prevention of climax:

Frequent visits to a gynecologist;

Food rich in calcium and less animal fat;

Avoid alcoholic beverages and tobacco;

Walking, exercises similar to aerobics, dancing, etc.

Before starting treatment of climax, it is necessary to conduct the following examinations:

Anamnesis;

Gynecological examination;

Ultrasound examination;

Consultation with a mammologist and ultrasound;

Mammography (according to indications);

Oncocytology (according to indications).

It is important to note that men may also experience a decrease in testosterone levels with age. This condition is known as andropause or “male menopause.” Symptoms of andropause may include decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, fatigue, and depression. Although andropause is not as well known as menopause, it still represents an important medical problem and may have a serious impact on a man’s quality of life.

Why should you consult a doctor in time during menopause?

Properly selected treatment started from an early period is a guarantee of preventing the late, severe consequences of climacteric syndrome, such as osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease, cardiovascular diseases, etc.

During climax, the decrease in the level of sex hormones may cause changes in a woman’s sexual activity and function; however, such a problem is not found in every case.
