Prostate cancer is one of the most common oncological diseases in men. Statistically, it is diagnosed in one out of every seven men. Nevertheless, when detected at an early stage, the disease is completely curable; however, in its early stages it often progresses without symptoms. Therefore, regular prostate cancer screening is of particular importance for men over the age of 50.
Today, the Karazanashvili Robotic Center is one of the leaders in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate diseases in Georgia, the Caucasus, and the Black Sea region. Our leading position is based on the latest robotic technologies, advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities, unique technologies, and the high qualifications of our specialists.
The Center offers unique prostate cancer screening based on 29 MHz micro-ultrasound. The system provides a 300% enlarged and enhanced image, enabling physicians to perform this examination with high accuracy. Transperineal Fusion biopsy is also available, combining micro-ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data on the ExactVu micro-ultrasound platform. Patients can undergo this examination only at the five branches of the Guram Karazanashvili Robotic Center in the Caucasus and the Black Sea region. Fusion biopsy is distinguished by its high accuracy and plays an important role in the early detection of prostate diseases.
Our clinic has simultaneously implemented two robotic technologies for the treatment of prostate cancer – robotic surgery and robotic focal therapy. The combination of these two innovative technologies within a single center is found in only a very small number of clinics worldwide.
Robotic prostate surgery is performed using the fourth-generation high-tech TOUMAI robotic system. The system provides the surgeon with a ten-times magnified three-dimensional (3D) image and enables the most complex procedures to be performed with maximum precision. The robot completely filters out natural hand tremor, which is especially important during prostate surgery, where preservation of the nerves and other functionally important structures is essential.
From February 2024 to the present, hundreds of successful robotic prostate cancer surgeries have been performed at the clinic. The accumulated experience has once again confirmed that robotic surgery is the gold standard of modern medicine. The main advantages of this method include smaller incisions, less blood loss, faster recovery, and a reduced risk of postoperative complications.
Functional outcomes are particularly important. Thanks to modern technologies and the surgical approaches implemented at the clinic, the majority of patients fully preserve urinary continence, while sexual function is preserved to the greatest extent possible. For this reason, robotic prostate surgery is now considered a safe, effective, and highly standardized treatment method.
The Karazanashvili Robotic Center also offers HIFU focal therapy, a non-surgical and non-invasive treatment method for prostate cancer. During the procedure, only the tumor is precisely destroyed while healthy tissue is preserved as much as possible. This technology is especially important for patients who wish to preserve the organ and choose a minimally invasive treatment option.
The foundation of successful prostate cancer management is early diagnosis and the selection of the appropriate treatment strategy. Based on advanced diagnostic capabilities, robotic surgery, focal therapy, and the experience of hundreds of successful operations, the Guram Karazanashvili Robotic Center offers patients safe and effective treatment that meets international standards, ensuring both the best oncological outcomes and the maximum possible preservation of quality of life.
