Prostate cancer – a malignant tumor of the prostate gland – is one of the most common diseases among men.

Prostate cancer primarily affects men between the ages of 45 and 70, but those under 45 or over 70 are not entirely immune to the disease either.
It is recommended that men over the age of 40 undergo regular preventive screenings. Timely and proper treatment can help avoid potential complications of the disease.

Men who exhibit symptoms characteristic of prostate cancer, such as:

  • Lower back pain
  • Pain in the pelvic area
  • Difficulty, increased frequency, and/or painful urination

are advised to undergo a PSA test, as it increases the likelihood of detecting prostate cancer at an early stage — which, in turn, is a key factor for successful treatment.

With age, the concentration of this marker (PSA) in the blood tends to increase, which may be associated with benign age-related prostatic hyperplasia.
Different PSA threshold levels are defined for men in various age groups:

  • 40–49 years – 2.5 ng/mL
  • 50–59 years – 3.5 ng/mL
  • 60–69 years – 4.5 ng/mL
  • 70–79 years – 6.5 ng/mL

There are still no clearly identified causes of prostate cancer, but certain risk factors should be taken into account:

  • Poor diet
  • Hereditary (genetic) factors
  • Hormonal imbalances related to aging

“When diagnosed early, prostate cancer is cured in almost 100% of cases — and not only cured, but after the nerve-sparing surgeries we perform, patients retain both sexual function and urinary continence.”
